HOUSTON — Maggie and Kenny Nagel, of Houston, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary by spending the weekend, July 25-26, 2015, with family.

Kenny and the former Maggie Walter were married July 24, 1965, at 3:30 p.m., in the St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold. The Rev. David Koch performed the ceremony on the hottest day of the year.

“It was so hot and humid, when the guests threw rice, it stuck to our faces,” Maggie remembered. Witnesses were Susan Dominique and Marvin Nagel. The couple had met when they attended Archbold High School.

Kenny is the son of the late Luella and Harold Nagel. He has a deceased brother, Marvin Nagel, and a deceased sister, Ruth Hoff.

Maggie is the daughter of the late Margaret and Henry Walter. She has a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Bill Starrett, of Carmel, Indiana, and three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Marcy Walter, Paul and Joellen Walter and Phil and Nancy Walter, all of Sidney.

The Nagels have four sons and three daughters-in-law, Doug Nagel, of Pemberton, Denny and Shannon Nagel, of Houston, David and Anna Nagel, of Sidney, and Dane and Tracy Nagel, of Versailles. They have six grandsons.

Maggie retired as a nurse from Fairhaven Shelby County Home in 2004. Kenny retired as a heavy equipment operator from Mainline Construction in 2003.

The couple enjoy watching their grandsons’ sporting events, traveling and spending time with family.
