Abbotts mark 55 years

SIDNEY — Gail Ann and Ralph Abbott, of Sidney, will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary at an open house hosted by their children and grandchildren, July 30, 2016, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the Amvets hall, 1319 Fourth Ave.

Ralph and the former Gail Ann Young were married July 15, 1961, at 6:30 p.m., in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sidney. The Rev. H.W. Swinehart performed the ceremony on a sunny, humid, very hot day. Ralph and the best man were late to arrive for the ceremony. Witnesses were Sarah Sue Young Millet, sister of the bride, and best man Ferris VanHorn. The couple had met through mutual friends.

Ralph is the son of the late Wilma and Forrest Abbott. He has a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Sam Rees, of Sidney.

Gail is the daughter of the late Linda Coe and Willis J. Young and the stepdaughter of the late Paul M. Coe. She has a sister who is deceased, Sarah Sue Young Millet.

The Abbotts are the parents of a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Ann Abbott-Brown and Jim Brown, of Houston, and a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan N. and Carol Abbott, of Sidney. They have five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Ralph retired in 2002 from the Honda of America Anna Engine Plant. Gail is a homemaker.

They attend the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Ralph enjoys classic cars and bowling. Gail enjoys reading, knitting and crocheting. They both enjoy watching their grandchildren’s sporting events.
