Smalls celebrate golden date

MAPLEWOOD — Janet and John Small, of Maplewood, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at an open house hosted by their children at 1 p.m. in the Maplewood Grange hall.

John and the former Janet Smith were married Aug. 15, 1965, at 2:30 p.m., in the Maplewood United Methodist Church. The Rev. Harold Kochersperger performed the ceremony on a sunny, humid day. Witnesses were Bob Friedly, Ralph Smith, Wyman McDaniels and Bea Smith. The couple had met at the Jackson Center movie theater.

John is the son of the late George Small. Janet is the daughter of the late Wilma and Kenneth Smith.

The Smalls have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Small, of Piqua, and Chad and Tracy Small, of Maplewood, and a daughter, Gina Ciriegio, of Sidney. They have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Janet retired in 2011 from IAC. John retired from Dayton Freightline in 2007.

The couple attend Maplewood United Methodist Church. They enjoy gardening and racing.
