Couple marks golden date

MAPLEWOOD — Carole and Earl Carruthers, of Maplewood, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently on a Mississippi River cruise aboard the American Queen and will enjoy a day with their family, April 29, 2017.

Earl and the former Carole Roberts were married April 29, 1967, at 2:30 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church in Alger. They honeymooned in Daytona Beach, Florida. The couple had met through a friend on a blind date.

Earl is the son of the late Isabelle and Guy Carruthers. Carole is the daughter of the late Evelyn and Russell Roberts.

The couple are the parents of two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Mike Morris, of St. Davids, Pennsylvania, and Shelly and Peter Davies, of Oakwood, and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Irish Carruthers, of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Andrew Carruthers, of Brooklyn, New York. They have six grandchildren.

Earl was employed by Copeland Corp. for five years and then by Tech Development in Dayton, from which he retired in 2012. Carole retired from the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development in Piqua in 2009. Prior to that, she made and sold woolen crafts at area shows.

Earl enjoys golf and playing chess. Carole swims at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA, plays tennis and enjoys gardening.

The couple are members of the Sidney First United Methodist Church.
