Couple to celebrate golden date

SIDNEY — Mary and Paul “Pete” Mays, of Sidney will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Aug. 19, 2017, at a family dinner hosted by their children at Heartland of Piqua.

Pete and the former Mary Young were married Aug. 19, 1967, in the United Missionary Church in Sidney. The Rev. Lawrence Thayer performed the ceremony on a warm and sunny day. Witnesses were best man Dennis Allen and maid of honor Rosemary Carnes, who themselves, became engaged to each other the night before the wedding. Pete and Mary had met on a blind date.

Paul is the son of the late Margaret and Paul E. Mays. He has a sister, Evelyn Thayer, of Sidney, and two brothers, Charles Mays, of Birch Run, Michigan, and Dale Mays, of Sidney.

Mary is the daughter of the late George Young and Charmalee Kuch. She has a living brother, George Young, of Piqua, and a living sister, Toni Klohe, of Columbus. Another brother, John Young, and another sister, Terri Kendred, are deceased.

The Mayses have a son and daughter-in-law, Paul “Scoot” II and Cindy Mays, of Piqua, and a daughter, Angela Westgerdes, of Sidney. They have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pete retired from Ross Aluminum Avon Division in 2006. Mary retired from RCI in 2012.

The couple attend the Solid Rock Church. Pete enjoys fishing, Mary enjoys reading and they both enjoy camping.
