Bensmans celebrate golden date

SIDNEY — Ruth Ann and Orville Bensman, of Sidney, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Oct. 8, 2017, with a Mass in the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney at 10:30 a.m. and an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. in The Center in Plattsville.

They ask that gifts be omitted.

Orville and the former Ruth Ann Miller were married Oct. 7, 1967, in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater. It was a warm, sunny day. Witnesses were best man Melvin Miller, brother of the bride; groomsmen Ronald Bensman and David Bensman, brothers of the bridegroom, and John Miller, brother of the bride; maid of honor Marge (Bensman) Moore, sister of the bridegroom; bridesmaids Jane (Bensman) Homan, sister of the bridegroom, Jane (Severt) Bertke and Darlene (Twaits) Gibbons. The couple had met at the Eldora Dance Hall.

Orville is the son of the late Henrietta and Art Bensman. He has two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Norma Bensman, of Minster, and David and Margie Bensman, of New Breman, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marge and Joe Moore, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Jane and Walter Homan, of Findlay.

Ruth Ann is the daughter of the late Olive and Clem Miller. She has a living brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Miller, of Tucson, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Ginger Miller, of Coldwater. Another brother, Melvin Miller, is deceased.

The Bensmans have four living sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Krista Bensman, of Conover, Brian and Catherine Bensman, of Troy, Randy and Sheila Bensman, of Sidney, and James and Tori Bensman, of Anna, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Steve Weinschenk, of Sidney, and Mary and John Tangeman, of New Bremen. Another son, Edward Bensman, is deceased. They have 17 grandchildren.

Orville is a retired feed salesman and lifelong farmer. Ruth Ann retired from Shelby Hills Early Childhood Center.

The couple attend Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.

Ruth enjoys volunteering, crocheting and playing cards. Orville enjoys helping on the family farm. They both enjoy attending their grandchildren’s school and sports activities.
