Golf outing raises scholarship funds

CELINA — The MED Foundation’s annual Esmode/Homan Memorial golf Outing was held June 14 at the Mercer County Elks Golf Club. Thirty-five teams participated this year, a record number of the event.

All proceeds of the outing support the MED Foundation scholarship program, which has awarded more than $241,700 in scholarships to local high school seniors, since the program began in 1992. This year the MED Foundation awarded 19 scholarships for $15,000 to local Mercer County High School students.

Local recipients include Marion Local – Alaina Sanders, Chloe Bertke, Chloe Nagel and Mikayla Spoltman, all Marion Local students.

The outing began with a 50/50 golf ball drop raffle. The winning golf ball was purchased by Carol Beckman. A torch red 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe, which will be given away during a reverse raffle at the Mercer Health Charity Ball on Nov. 18, 2018, also made its first appearance at the outing.

The winning teams of this year’s outing received a trophy and a dozen golf balls. The winning teams were: Men’s division: Dr. Robert Keighley, Hilton Garner, Jim Whalen and Chris Crowl; Ladies’ division: Nancy Hartke, Mary Ellen Kremer, Cindy Rainey, Dorothy Eifert; and Co-ed division: Amy Kemper, Jim Kemper, Jamie Kuhn, Kerry Mitchell.

Other winners included Men’s longest drive (under 50): Nate Kaup; Men’s longest drive (over 50): Joe Puthoff; Ladies’ longest drive: Jody Schulze; Men’s longest putt: Tim Moeller; Ladies’ longest putt: Peg Muhlenkamp; Men’s closest to the pin: Jamie Kuhn; Ladies’ closest to the pin: Nancy Mescher; and Hole in one: Jim Kemper.
