Fort Loramie Board of Education approves contracts

FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Board of Education reviewed routine business during their Monday, July 17, meeting in addition to listening to public opinion on the rehiring of the head baseball coach.

AP scores showed improvement over last year, with only one area holding about the same. Physics jumped from 2.9 to 3.3, government went from 3.3 to 3.6, English literature moved from 3.2 to 3.4 and calculus remained at 3.2. Preliminary AIR results for third through sixth grade showed a performance index of 108.4, which is down from 111.6 last year.

The monthly financial report showed an anticipated carry-over balance of $6,939,415.

The board approved two items to be the same as last year: the prices for renting sections of the Elementary school and Junior/Senior High school, and pay rates for substitute teachers. The free and reduced price lunch policy and forms for the next school year were also approved.

The following supplemental contracts for next year were approved: Ryan Goldschmidt, boys varsity assistant; Jason Shatto, assistant girls basketball coach; Thomas Wisener, eighth-grade boys basketball coach; Blake Gaier, junior high football coach; Joseph Imwalle, seventh-grade boys basketball coach; Jacob Kitzmiller, junior high football coach; Courtney Paul, girls varsity assistant; and Drew Wehrman, junior High football coach.

James Meyer was also approves as a boys basketball volunteer.

The board also approved the following substitute school bus drivers: Phillip Barhorst, Kevin J. Geise, David J. Goldschmidt, Ryan Goldschmidt, Daniel B. Holland, Brenda A. Hoying, Susan A. Kaufman, Kirk M. Motter, Matt J. Pleiman, Scott D. Rodeheffer, Jeffrey Schulze, Bradley A. Turner, John C. Turner and Kevin Wrasman.

They also issued a limited administrative contract to Thomas Wisener as part time assistant athletic director for one year.

Superintendent Daniel Holland and Treasurer Danyel Spillers received salary increases. Holland now earns $112,022.46 and Spillers earns $58.849.

The governor’s budget bill allowed a set of optional graduation requirements for the class of 2018, which allows students an alternative way to graduate if students do not have the necessary 18 graduation points. Five students were thought to be in a position to benefit from the bill.

The resignations of Jason Shatto and Courtney Paul as girls varsity basketball assistants were accepted.

Joni Siegrist received a pay raise for achieving a masters degree and 15 years of experience. She now earns $58,849.

An agreement with the Russia Local School Board of Education to provide drivers education services to Russia students at the rate of $440 per student was approved, as was a $360 fee for driver education for Fort Loramie students next year.

A contract with Midwest Regional Education Service Center was approved by the board for the next school year. They provide specialized services like speech pathologists or school psychologists for school districts.

The board approved a resolution approving the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council to advertise and receive bids for the purchase of a school bus, which the board is considering.

Cleaning and maintenance of the elementary roof will be completed by Cotterman and Company, Inc., and will cost $22,900. The elementary parking lot will be redone by Shinn Brothers, Inc., for $239,500, with a completion date of Oct. 15.

The board also accepted two donations from the Fort Loramie Board of Education, one for a scholarship fund of $250 and another for a Discretionary Incentive fund of $123.78.
