SIDNEY — After a year of bragging rights, the Sidney Police Department will defend its title in the second annual “Heroes Behind the Badge Blood Drive” Tuesday, Aug. 29, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Wilson Health Professional Building, 915 W. Michigan St.

Wilson Health will again host this friendly competition between police, fire, and EMS to see who can recruit the most colleagues, family and friends to register to donate and vote for their team. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

“Improving the health of our community is at the heart of our mission,” said Mark Dooley, Wilson Health president and CEO. “Taking a small amount of time out of your day and donating blood can make a large impact on the health and vitality of the people in our community and ultimately save lives.”

The first competition was spirited and transparent. CBC’s Kathy Pleiman set out plastic ballot boxes that made it easy to see how each team was doing in the voting. Sidney Police claimed the first championship plaque with 38 donor votes. The Sidney Fire Department was the runner-up with 29 votes.

Most importantly, the 2016 Heroes blood drive successfully boosted the summer blood supply by totaling 132 donors, including 20 first-time donors and 105 donations.
