Botkins schools hires employees

BOTKINS — Botkins Local Schools Board of Education met in regular session, Wednesday, Sept. 13, to hire employees and accept resignations, among other things.

The board hired Jessica Hoying, Cheryl Garrison and Lauren Luthman as substitute teachers at a rate of $90 per day. Tyler Free, Justin Shuga, Grant Greve, Garrett Greve, Nate Deitler and Zack Ware were also hired as student athletic workers at minimum wage.

The board also accepted the resignation of Ken Lemmon, who was a regular bus route driver, and Heather Thaman, who was head swim coach.

Andrea Jones was hired through Midwest Regional Educational Services Commission (MRESC) as the new head swim coach. Roberta “Bobbie” Young was also hired through MRESC to lead RoBotkins. Michael Hoy was hired as a regular bus route driver.

Victoria Smith was approved as a student observer in Stephanie Manger’s first-grade classroom.

The board also approved the 2018 fiscal year appropriations and approved an amendment to the certificate of estimated resources.

Board members also heard committee reports, through which they were informed that Botkins Athletic Boosters would like to auction one of the old scoreboards at the Night at the Races. They will also have a 50/50 drawing at Meyers Tavern and a gun raffle.

The board was also informed that the school received a Louise Sheets Fund grant for a new scoreboard.

The next Botkins Board of Education meeting will be Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
