Tipp arts group opens story contest

TIPP CITY —The Tipp City Area Arts Council has announced a short story contest for people in third grade through adult age.

Students may participate whether they are public-, private- or home-schooled. Entries are limited to one submission per person and must be original, nonpublished work. Submissions must have a holiday theme and contain at least a reference to candy canes. The story can be no more than 5,000 words and cannot contain any vulgar or offensive subject matter or language.

Entries may be accompanied by one illustration, which does not need to be the author’s artwork. Entries must be received by midnight, Nov. 27.

Prizes will be awarded Dec. 1, during the Community Band Concert in the Zion Lutheran Church, 14 W. Walnut St., Tipp City. Winning stories will be printed in the 2017 TCAAC Literary Publication. Employees and/or agents of the Tipp City Area Arts Council and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

Participants must submit in one of the following categories: Grades 3 to 5, Grades 6 to 8, Grades 9 to 12 or Adult.

Writing workshops will be Oct. 6 at the Tipp City Public Library. Students in grades 6 to 12 will meet from 3 to 4 p.m.; in grades 3 to 5 will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. A critiquing session will be Oct. 26 at the Tipp City Public Library, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. All workshops are optional.

Entries must be accompanied by completed entry forms, available by emaililng [email protected].

Entries will be judged on originality, creativity and artistic quality. Proper spelling and grammar will also be considered. Any entry containing profanity, vulgarity or offensive material will be disqualified. Any entry that does not meet contest requirements or exceeds 5,000 words will be disqualified.
