SIDNEY — The Shelby County Agricultural Society met on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to discuss upkeep of the fairgrounds and bills.

Treasurer Eugene Schulze presented the board with bills to be paid for August, which amounted to $34,478.17. He also reported on the 2017 Fair, saying that by the end of August there was $129,818.14 in the checking account. He noted there was $25,328.13 in a certificate of deposit. The only big expenses left to pay from the fair are the water and sewage bill and the final for the Sidney Daily News, who printed the fairbook.

A discussion about booth curtains for the Merchant’s hall was addressed. The price is a little over $1,100 for a two year rental, and the motion passed. The board also purchased two tents for the food truck rally.

The board also spent $450 on new seals for the lawn mower, and will be repairing the grounds truck power steering pump.

The dates of July 22-28 were approved for the 2018 fair.

Chris Roediger reported that the horseshoe courts had been removed and horse area drainage project was completed in the last week of September.

Aaron Heilers was approved to apply for a grant to do some landscaping on the fairgrounds. President Mitch Brautigam asked the board to apply for Fair Funds, which will go towards harness racing purses. The motion was approved.

Brautigam also noted the electric contract was due to expire in November. The current pricing is 6.84 cents per kilowatt and there is a bid from Energy Me for 5.65 cents per kilowatt, which the board moved to accept.
