Singers get sound system

SIDNEY — The Senior Center Singers will have a new sound system, thanks to a $700 donation to the Senior Center of Sidney and Shelby County by the Senior Center Foundation.

The center board of trustees learned of the donation during its regular meeting, Oct. 7. They also received information that a grant had been received from Walmart.

Darla Wilges, the interim director, reported that in September, 19 volunteers gave 338.25 hours of service to the center. There were 917 members that month, no new ones and no deaths. Participation in September was 2,997 for an average daily count of 120.

County Commissioner Tony Bornhorst reported that county revenue is meeting expectations; federal prisoners and prisoners from three outside counties are being housed in the Shelby County jail; sheriff’s deputies are providing security daily at the hospital; the courthouse needs more work on the bell tower; the board of elections building will get a new roof; and solar fields should save 25 to 33 percent on energy costs at Fair Haven and the jail.
