BOTKINS — The newly formed Botkins Education Foundation will host an banquet, May 15, in the Palazzo in Botkins, to award more than $38,000 in scholarships.

The deadline to purchase tickets is May 8. Tickets are available at the school, First National Bank, Meyer Tavern, Botkins Electric and from any foundation board member.

The organization was formed to increase the number of scholarships and promote educational activities at the schools. In addition, it has created a Wall of Honor to recognize outstanding accomplishments of alumni and others who have made significant contributions to the Botkins Local School District. The first Wall of Honor induction ceremony will be included in the evening’s program.

The speaker for the event will be Botkins alumnus and recently retired Navy SEAL Command Master Chief Steve Van Horn. He received numerous combat awards including the Legion of Merit Award, the Silver Star, five Bronze Stars with Valor and one Bronze Star with Valor and Extraordinary Heroism.

Superintendent Jeff McPheron said, “We are so fortunate to have community members step forward to work with the school, offering support and encouragement to our students both locally, and as they graduate and continue their education beyond the walls of the Botkins Local School.”

Foundation board members are Priscilla Wilt, Fritz Serr, Pat Elsass, Sara Kreitzer, Chris Brown, Connie Schneider and Jim Dietz.
