‘Sister Act’ swings into La Comedia

SPRINGBORO — La Comedia Dinner Theatre, 765 W. Central Ave., Springboro, will present the musical, “Sister Act,” through June 18.

A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sister hood and music, “Sister Act” has been seem by more than 6 million people worldwide.

When an aspiring disco singer witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in a convent. Disguised as a nun, she helps the choirfind their groove and breathes new life into the church.

The musical is based on the 1992 film and features origninal music by Tony- and Oscar-winning Alan Menken, a book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner and lyrics by Glenn Slater with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

Appearing in the La Comedia production are Ashley St. Juliette as Deloris Van Cartier; Manuel Cortes Alcazar as Pablo; Daniel Joseph Baker as Ernie; Hanna-Lyn Baxter as Sister Mary Robert; Janet Ellen Brucken as Sister Mary Lazarus; Jeremiah Bryant as TJ; Colin Cranstoun as Joey; Linda Dew as Mother Superior; Elana Elmore as Michelle; Olivia Gnagey, Piper Hoffman and Christen Placa as nuns; Marc-Anthony Lewis as Curtis; Nark Reuer as Monsignor O’Hara; Tina Shatto as Sister Mary Theresa; Karie-Lee Sutherland as Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours; David Thomas as a cop; Kimberly Truncale as Sister Mary Patrick; and John Rodney Turner as Eddie.

“Sister Act” was directed and choreographed by Chris Beiser with musical direction by Lloyd Butler, scene design by Ray Zupp, lighting design by Geoffrey D. Fishburn, and costume coordination by Emercita Erb.
