Library announces summer program

SIDNEY — Shelby County Libraries is offering free summer reading programs for all ages.

Registration will begin, Tuesday, May 30, at all Shelby County Libraries with locations in Anna, Botkins, Fort Loramie, Jackson Center, Russia and Sidney. The theme is Build a Better World.

The Children’s Summer Library Program is designed for children from birth to fifth grade. Readers will receive free books and several other incentive prizes, including brick toys and healthy snacks, when they track their reading and activity progress. Participants may also enter to win one of several grand prize baskets, which include Kings Island, Zoombezi Bay, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Columbus Zoo and Newport Aquarium tickets. As part of the Summer Library Program, the library will also foster many programs and fun activities for each age group. Some of this year’s special activities include Touch a Truck, Exotic Zoo, STEM building programs from the Neil Armstrong Museum, a LEGO Block Party, movie screenings and family programs. A detailed calendar will be provided at registration with dates and times for all programs.

The Teen Summer Library Program is for any teen in grades six through 12 and runs through July 22. Teens can read, attend a program or participate in other activities, such as redesigning a book cover or making soundtracks for their favorite books, to earn tickets for a chance to win a Kindle Fire, Kings Island tickets and many other prizes. Some of this year’s programs include Build a Better Waffle, Book Club, After Hours Breakout Challenge and Teen Thursdays. Calendars with additional program information are available at the library.

Adults 18 and older can request a card when checking out materials. For every five books, eBooks, audiobooks or magazines read or listened to, the reader’s name is entered into a drawing for prizes that include a $150 Lowe’s gift card, four Cincinnati Reds tickets, Cosi tickets, Dayton Art Institute tickets, Cincinnati Zoo tickets, Columbus Museum of Art tickets, I-Tunes gift card, $25 Menards gift card, Sidney Holiday Inn Express overnight stay with breakfast, chamber gift certificates and much more. In addition, readers can receive a 50 percent off camping certificate for Ohio state parks.
