Houston Assn. needs fair booth help

HOUSTON — The Houston Community Association has put out a call for volunteers to help staff its food booth during the Shelby County Fair.

Interested people are asked to stop at the association’s building on July 5 between 6 and 8 p.m., or to contact a trustee to sign up to help.

During their recent meeting, the trustees reported that anyone 12 or older is eligible to assist. Houston High School students who need volunteer hours in order to apply for an HCA scholarship are particularly welcome.

In other business, the trustees:

• Received a plaque from Community Blood Center representative Kathy Plieman, who recognized the association for being a Platinum Partner of the Blood Center by reaching 100 percent of donor goals in 2016.

• Noted that there will be a spaghetti dinner in the Houston Community Association building on July 16 from 4 to 9 p.m., to benefit Rachelle Cooper. Funds will help her with medical expenses she will incur due to an auto accident in April. Tickets are $8 and must be purchased in advance of the event by calling 937-570-5741.

• Announced the winners of the Houston High School scholarships as Isaiah Beaver and Allison Voisard. They each received $500.
