| 6/17/2008 9:20:00 AM | Email this article Print this article | Courter named Sidney AD Sidney Athletic Trainer Jeff Courter was hired by the Sidney Board of Education Monday night as the district's new athletic director.
Courter replaces Brian Donoher, who recently announced his plans to take a similar position with Kettering Fairmont High School.
Courter has served as the district's athletic trainer for 13 years, the only certified athletic trainer the district has ever known. He is set to begin his administrative duties on Aug. 1. He received a two-year limited contract and will be paid $74,787.84 per year.
A graduate of Houston High School, Courter resides in Sidney with his wife Julie, who is a Botkins native, and their three children; Mackenzie and twins Jackson and Reagan.
"I'm thrilled to be named Athletic Director for Sidney City Schools," said Courter. "I have spent my entire career with the district as an athletic trainer, which has allowed me the opportunity to develop wonderful relationships with both the staff and community. I look forward to building on these relationships to continue the district's legacy of athletic excellence."
"The search produced numerous highly-qualified candidates for the position," said district Superintendent Pat O'Donnell. "The interview team was very impressed not only by Jeff's extensive knowledge of the district, but also his dedication to the athletic program and vision for the future."
The search for Sidney's new athletic director yielded extensive interest from candidates, with the district receiving more than 50 applications for the job. The field was then narrowed and interviewed by a committee of staff and community members.
The interview team dedicated many hours to interviewing candidates for the job, and was comprised of Superintendent Pat O'Donnell; Assistant Superintendent Dr. Norm Burkhardt; SHS Principal Dr. Sharon Sherry; Associate Athletic Director and teacher Maggie Williams; coach and teacher Eric Harlamert; coach and teacher Jim McCracken; Sidney Athletic Booster Group President Bob Guillozet and Sidney alumni and local sports historian Dave Ross.
