WAPAKONETA - In its two playoff wins, offense was not much of a problem for Fort Loramie as the Redskins totaled 268 yards, including 228 on the ground, in the win at Lockland and racked up 639 yards, 612 rushing, in blowing out Southeastern last week.
Unfortunately for the Redskins, that offensive momentum did not carry into Saturday's Division VI, Region 24 championship here at Harmon Field as Marion Local held Loramie scoreless and to 221 yards overall in a 27-0 victory.
Loramie closes out its best season in the five-year history of the program at 10-3 while Marion takes an 8-5 mark into the state semifinals Saturday, again at Wapakoneta, against conference rival and defending state champ Delphos St. John's.
Entering the game, the Redskins were 4-3 all-time versus MAC opponents and they held their own in the opening quarter against the Flyers, holding Marion to three and out on its first two possessions.
The field position battle, though, was in favor of Marion as it started its third possession on its own 40 yard line. After converting a third and 13 with an 18-yard pass from Jarren Griesdorn to Austin Berning, a 15-yard carry by fullback Jake Heitkamp followed by a 14-yard Niles Keller rush resulted in a first down at the Loramie 15.
A three-yard Keller pickup on third down set up a first and goal on the three and the Flyers took the lead on the next play as Griesdorn scored a touchdown on a keeper up the middle with 10:53 remaining in the second quarter.
Loramie quarterback Ryan Humphreys was stopped for a loss twice on the Redskins' next possession, giving Marion great field position again at the Loramie 34. After a 17-yard completion to Adam Schulze, Griesdorn connected on another 17-yard pass, this time to a wide-open Greg Schwieterman in the right corner of the endzone for a 13-0 lead at the 8:52 mark.
