Jackson girls get first win
JACKSON CENTER - Jackson Center got in the win column for the first time Tuesday night, beating Riverside 54-41 in non-league girls basketball.

JC is 1-4 and Riverside 2-3.

"It was nice to get that many kids scoring," said Jackson coach Gregg Gooding. "We had good balance."

Jackson led 37-25 after three periods thanks to a big three at the end of the quarter by Dakota Sowders. However, Riverside scored the first six points of the final period to cut the lead in half before the Lady Tigers were able to put it away.

Kristen Winemiller had 13 and Mackenzie May 11 for Jackson. Four other girls had six or more points.

Amelia Carter had 17 for Riverside.

Riverside (41)

Purtee 2-3-7; Snapp 2-1-6; Shough 1-0-3; Jenkins 3-0-7; Heaberlin 0-1-1; Carter 7-2-17. Totals: 15-7-41.






Jackson Center (54)

Knoxville

tops Botkins

BOTKINS - New Knoxville poured in 21 points in the final period to overcome a one-point deficit and defeat Botkins 53-48 in non-league girls play Tuesday.

Knoxville is 1-4 and Botkins 1-5.

Knoxville's Taylor Elshoff stepped up big in the final period for the Lady Rangers. She finished with 22 points and 15 of those came in the final quarter, including 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

Taylor Arnett added 17.

For Botkins, Courtney Kramer had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jenna Schmerge had 15 points and eight rebounds.
