SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA is ready to welcome in the spring and summer seasons with their annual Healthy Kids Day. The annual Shelby County Health Fair will also be held in conjunction with Healthy Kids Day.

The events, planned for Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the YMCA, 300 E. Parkwood St., is a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active all summer long.

Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, and features games, healthy snacks, face painting, a mad scientist, bicycle safety checks and more to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home. The first 200 families in attendance will receive a reusable tote bag.

One in three U.S. children is obese, and when summertime hits, kids will be more idle. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year. Healthy Kids Day is an opportunity for the community to focus on what kids need to grow and achieve all summer long.

In addition to the events for Healthy Kids Day, the Shelby County Health Fair will be held. Planned for the health fair are health screenings, health information, light refreshments and other events.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Healthy Kids Day 2019 is sponsored nationally by Howard Johnson by Wyndham and locally by Wilson Health, Shelby County Help Me Grow, State Farm – Ashley Himes, Agape Distribution, Dayton Children’s Hospital and Western and Southern Financial Group.

Health Fair sponsors include the city of Sidney, Ohio Living Dorothy Love, Wilson Health, Senior Center of Shelby County and the YMCA.

Health fair also planned at YMCA
