Kiwanis Club of Sidney scholarship awards announced

SIDNEY – Gary J. Carter, chairman of the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee, announced that the Kiwanis Club of Sidney is awarding $11,500 in scholarships to nine area students in 2019.

Those students are invited to attend the Kiwanis meeting on June 5 at the Sidney Moose Club.

Sara Gibson of Sidney High School received the Kiwanis-Robert and Delores Peters Scholarship of $2,500. Caleb Johnson of Sidney High School and Lauren Riley of Lehman High School each received a Kiwanis Academic scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Michael Denning and Grace Olding, both of Lehman High School, and Alyssa Chavez of Sidney High School each received a Kiwanis Academic Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Josh Harlett of Sidney High School received a Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Jessica Taylor of Sidney and Aleah Frilling of Fort Loramie were awarded a Vera DoLean Ginn Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 each.

The Kiwanis Club of Sidney Scholarship Fund is administered by The Community Foundation of Shelby County and is funded by Kiwanis Club members, former members and by gifts from the estate of former members Robert Peters and his wife, Delores. Seniors at Sidney High School, Lehman Catholic High School, The Christian Academy and Upper Valley JVS who reside within the boundaries of the Sidney School District are eligible to apply for the general scholarships. The Vera DoLean Ginn Scholarship is available countywide to high school and college students pursuing an elementary education degree.
