Sock & Buskin has full season of shows in 2019

SIDNEY — In 2019, Sock & Buskin Players produced a full season of shows and continue with their mission statement by producing and performing live theater in the community by utilizing local talent and resources.

Business Manager Christi Thomas has submitted the following report:

“Fairy Tale Misfits” with two casts of kids and directed by Jenni Jeske was performed in March at the Cameo Theatre in the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Center. “Grease” was performed to almost sold-out houses in August, directed by Kevin Frazier-Jones with choreography by Liz Maxson. “Frozen, Jr.” was a big hit at the Historic Sidney Theatre in mid August; and “Steel Magnolias,” directed by Christi Thomas, was performed on the stage with the audience on stage in November.

Steve Dietrich is the president with Ken Pistone, vice president in charge of productions; Maggie Streb, Webmaster and vice president in charge of marketing; Peg Dietrich, secretary; and Christi Thomas, business manager. Committees include Kevin Frazier-Jones in charge of Adult Planning; Kimberly Pistone heads Family & Youth Planning; Kathy Streb is in charge of Fundraising; with Polly Lawson heading Membership and Long-Range Planning.

Membership is open to the public with $10 dues for an adult or $15 for a family. Paid membership receives advance notices of upcoming auditions, shows, and information on other Ohio community theaters. The group meets the second Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. usually at the office of the Historic Sidney Theatre.

For some, the love of theater and the arts also takes them to other venues and other cities. In 2019, S&B members also worked with Raise the Roof for the Arts, Sidney Christian Academy, Fairlawn High School and Troy Civic Theatre.

In 2020, the group plans to perform “Same Time, Next Year” in February directed by Polly Lawson; “Enchanting Tales” in March; “Newsies” in July/August; and a fall play TBA.

Sock & Buskin is a member of the Ohio Community Theatre Association and continues to partner with the Kroger Company for those people who have a Kroger Plus card and sign up via the internet, S&B receives a dollar percentage of your purchases.
