SIDNEY — The Wilma Valentine Childcare just received approval from the Department of Job and Family Services to be a Temporary Pandemic Childcare Center.

A temporary center can only provide services to children whose parents are employed providing health, safety, and other essential services as determined by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. the childcare center is approved to serve children aged 2 ½-grade 3. Wilma Valentine Childcare is located on the site of the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities at 1200 S. Children’s Home Road, Sidney where Shelby Hills Preschool program is located.

“You do not need to be a resident of Sidney or Shelby County to have your child temporarily attend our childcare center. We plan to begin this service on Thursday, March 26, because this is the date all other childcare centers are mandated to close unless they have received this license. We will follow the Governor’s orders to serve groups of six or fewer children. We will serve a hot lunch daily, said Director Nancy Stiefel in a letter sent out to workers in essential services prividing health, saety and other essential services.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is reviewing its ability to cover the cost of this childcare for essential worker’s children whether or not a family is eligible for the JFS childcare subsidy.

“For the present time, we will charge and are working on our fee structure,” said Stiefel. “You will receive a discount if you need to enroll multiple children from a family. Families who are eligible for Job and Family Services Childcare subsidy will remain eligible during this time period. Should there be reimbursment for this service from ODJFS for the families we charged a fee, we will reimbuse families as appropriate.

“To assist with enrollment of children into the Childcare Center, we will have an administrative staff member be available for late hours on Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Please come to the building marked Early Intervention and Shelby Hills Preschool,” said Stiefel.
