Fire dept. reports 278 EMS, 80 fire calls in June

SIDNEY — In June, personnel of the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services responded to 278 EMS calls and 80 fire calls for a total of 358 calls compared to 291 calls in June 2014.

On June 5, Christi Thomas retired after 43 years with the city of Sidney, including 21 years with the fire department. Assistant Chief Scott Boyer retired on June 20 after 26 years. On June 22, Dallas Davis was promoted to lieutenant and Eric Barhorst became the new assistant chief for C Crew.

Personnel conducted in-house hazmat scenario, structural collapse, and vehicle rescue training. Two personnel attended a three-day class on technical rescue training, and two personnel also attended a three-day Blue Card training.

A fire investigation was conducted at 122 and 123 Oldham Ave., with 745 Grandview St. also being involved.

The Fire Prevention Division performed 71 inspections, with 12 re-inspections; handled one complaint; gave two fire extinguisher classes, three fire safety education classes, and one station tour; and handed out 26 carbon monoxide detectors.

Special inspections for May included Emerson Climate Technologies and Wilson Memorial Hospital.
