1 killed in 2-vehicle accident

SIDNEY — One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Paul Fitzpatrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred around 10:37 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of state Route 589 and Middleton Hume Road in Green Township. The preliminary investigation shows a 2002 Toyota pickup truck, driven by Fitzpatrick, was westbound on Middleton Hume Road. Fitzpatrick failed to stop at the intersection’s posted stop sign.

Fitzpatrick continued through the intersection and was struck by at 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Gregory A. Petry, who was traveling northbound on state Route 589. Fitzpatrick’s vehicle traveled off the south side of Middleton Hume Road and overturned several times in a cornfield. Fitzpatrick was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Petry was treated at the scene by EMS personnel and was to found to have no injuries.

Perry Port Salem Rescue, Fletcher Fire Department and Rosewood Fire Department responded to the scene.

Ages and residences of the men involved in the accident were not available Sunday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation.
