SIDNEY — During their May meeting, members of the board of trustees of the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Center discussed changing the hours that the Senior Center is open to members.

A three-month trial of hours running from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily, was considered. It was noted that an exercise trainer would be available during more hours than is currently possible.

Also discussed was a request by the Texas hold ‘em card group to change the day and the location of their card-playing.

In other business:

• Director Eileen Wiseman reported that at the end of April, the center had 844 members, of whom 17 were new. There were four deaths of members in April. Total April visits were 3,544, which averaged 136 per day.

• Sidney City Manager Mark Cundiff that finances are on target for the city, that the city is having a difficult time dealing with Lectern and is considering changing the weed control height on vacant lands around the city from a 12-inch height to an 8-inch height. He also reported that the water source project is still underway, cutting brush to make way for new water lines and a large warehouse is being constructed behind Menards.

• Shelby County Commissioner Tony Bornhorst reported that finances for the county are on schedule, that the county land bank is going as projected, cleaning up back property-tax properties. He also reported that a Newport sewer meeting went well and residents will be sent notices of future meetings. State Routes 705 and 66 will be closed this summer in the Fort Loramie/Newport region.
