Meininger charged in fatal crash

SIDNEY — A Sidney woman who struck a motorcycle, resulting in the death of its driver, has been charged by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Chief Deputy Jim Frye, Linda Meininger, 73, of Sidney, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor, and right of way when turning left, a minor misdemeanor. Meininger’s attorney appeared on her behalf in Sidney Municipal Court Monday afternoon, July 11. Paperwork requesting a pretrial date has been filed with the court.

Meininger was served with the citations on July 5.

On June 28, Meininger was northbound on Sidney Freyburg Road when she started to make a left turn onto Hoewisher Road. She failed to see a motorcycle driven by Philip Brown, 67, of Sidney.

She turned into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a near head-on collision. Brown, who was southbound on Sidney Freyburg Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meininger, who serves as the Shelby County treasurer, was uninjured in the accident.
