Coast Guard auxiliary needs volunteers

CENTERVILLE — The Coast Guard Auxiliary of South West Ohio is in need of volunteers.

Coast Guard auxiliarists promote safety with activities helping boaters through public education, vessel examinations, safety patrols and fellowship.

Auxiliary boating safety programs are its four cornerstones. Public Education: for novice to mature boaters taught by experienced boating specialists. An owner may request a Vessel Safety Examination: boats meeting the safety equipment standards display the coveted Auxiliary Safety Check Sticker. Operations: Safety patrols controlled by an auxiliary radio station help a boater having a safety problem. Fellowship: Flotilla activities bond the member team together.

Some members choose to volunteer with Coast Guard units.

Training will be provided and then volunteers will assist on Ohio lakes and the Ohio River.
