BOTKINS – School begins on Tuesday, Aug. 25 this year for Botkins Local School.
Open House will be Monday, Aug. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.
New teachers for the 2015-16 school year include:
• Norman Leugers, the new industrial technology teacher. He has taught Industrial Technology at Ft. Recovery High School for 20 plus years and is a graduate of Wilmington. He has been involved in STEM and brings a wealth of information and ideas to Botkins. He is excited to be at Botkins.
• Katie Greve will be joining Botkins as a new sixth grade teacher. She is a graduate of Wapakoneta High School and University of Dayton. She has 3 years teaching experience and will soon be Mrs. Hottle. She will be coaching junior high volleyball as well.
• Allison Bruns is a recent graduate of the Ohio State University and will be the family and consumer science teacher. She is excited to be returning to this area to begin her teaching career.
• Botkins also have a new athletic director for the 2015-16 school year. Brad Bergman is returning to his alma mater as the athletic director. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Miami University and has taught in North Carolina Highland High School where he was head basketball coach.
This was an extremely busy summer completing the building project. The playground surface was completed, additional parking spaces were added and landscaping was completed. In addition, demolition and renovation of the building on State Street continues. 32,000 square feet of the building remains and renovation to the interior and exterior continues. The projected completion date will coincide with the opening of basketball season.
The school has purchased a 3D printer and is very excited to bring some new technology to their industrial technology program.
Botkins will be offering the following dual enrollment courses through Urbana University: biology, anatomy, composition, Spanish, French, Spanish II, French II and pre-calculus.
Botkins student enrollment will be up this year.
The school has redone it’s Emergency Operations Plan to comply with the Attorney General requirements. This process has taken about six months and included training for the administration as well as the entire staff. The safety of the students is a top priority and everyone works hard to ensure the security of the building and the safety of the students.
When Botkins returns to school they will be greeted with one major change. The school class period schedule, which has been the same for numerous years, has been changed to provide students and teachers with some needed support. “Trojan Time”, as the school has named it, will be a period that has been reconfigured during the middle of the day to provide support for students and teachers.
During “Trojan Time”, teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues on a variety of topics while students are being provided enrichment or intervention.
