WAPAKONETA — A Lima man died Wednesday from injuries he suffered after a woman struck him with a vehicle Tuesday.

Michael R. Angel, 32, of 1200 W. Market St., Lima, was pronounced dead at St. Rita’s Medical Center at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release Wapakoneta Police Department Chief Russel Hunlock.

Based on the initial investigation at the scene and after interviewing witnesses, investigators determined the driver “could have intentionally struck” Angel, according to the initial statement released by Hunlock.

Police continue to investigate the incident. An autopsy had been ordered by the Allen County coroner’s office.

Angel was struck by a vehicle on Brighthorn Street, just south of North Street, at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses at the scene told police a vehicle stopped on North Street, just east of Brighthorn, and an argument began between the victim and a 34-year-old female driver from Wapakoneta, after Angel exited the vehicle. The police department declined to release her name at this time, and would not say if she had been arrested.

Witnesses said Angel started walking south on Brighthorn, when the vehicle turned onto Brighthorn and struck him.

Wapakoneta Fire/EMS transported Angel to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, where he later died.

Agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation were called in to assist with the investigation, as well as the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.
