Fire victim identified

JACKSON CENTER — The name of the person killed in the Thanksgiving morning fire has been released.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Jody T. Reymiller, 47, 16041 Pasco Montra Road, Jackson Center, died in the fire.

At approximately 4:54 a.m., Nov. 24, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a house fire with a person trapped inside the rural residence. Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and fire and rescue units were dispatched.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, the first unit arrived within six minutes and found the house totally engulfed. A person from the residence was taken by emergency medical service personnel to Wilson Health in Sidney for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire.

Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters located another victim, deceased, in the home.

The Reymiller’s body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Responding fire and EMS units were the Jackson Center, Anna, Van Buren Township, and Botkins fire departments and Anna EMS. Additional tankers from the Maplewood, Port Jefferson and Minster fire departments took water to the scene. The state fire marshal was called and reportedly arrived on the scene in the early afternoon. Firefighters and others remained there until almost 3 p.m.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives, the Sidney-Shelby County Fire Investigation Unit, the Shelby County Coroner’s Office and the state fire marshal are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.
