Children learn how to make soap

SIDNEY — A local soap maker met with kids at the Alpha Community Center in November 2016 and showed them how soap is made by hand.

The owner and operator of Absence Soaps, Justin Neu, recently returned with the finished soap for the kids to package as gifts for Christmas for their loved ones.

The kids made soap with orange and lavender essential oils. It was an interesting project during which the kids learned about a local business and a trade.

“Making soap is something I enjoy doing. I thought it would be a nice gift for the kids to make for their families. They took pride in seeing the finished product,” said Neu.

Jan Geuy, Alpha Center executive director, said the experience was a good one for the kids.

“The kids had a great time and it was a wonderful and creative way for them to provide their family with a nice Christmas gift,” said Geuy.

Absence Soaps offers soap through an online website at www.absencesoaps.com and at the Refresh and Revive Stores in Sidney. Absence Soaps recently announced they will donate 10 percent of proceeds from all soap sold beginning in December 2016 to the Alpha Community Center.

Neu volunteers at the center and his family is involved with the projects and programs at the center.
