A detachment of 24 men from Co. A of the Third regiment, has arrived in Piqua to take up the task of guarding the Pennsylvania railroad bridge over the Miami River there. The bridge is the longest on the Pennsylvania lines between Richmond, Ind. and Steubenville, O. It was built following the 1913 flood.

Members of the junior class presented their annual play last evening in the high school auditorium with their efforts well received. The cast included: Cecil Webster, Grace Morrison, Mildred Taylor, Helen Kah, Fannie Young, Kenneth Heiser, Pauline Pence, Richard Wolfe, William Quinn, and Alva Grosvenor.

Monday, April 10, 1942

Mrs. Ferd Freytag was elected president, when members of the Central Child Study Club met yesterday at the school. Serving with her will be Mrs. Reuben Aschenbach, secretary, and Mrs. Harry Binkley, treasurer.

Charles Seving, in charge of the housing bureau with offices in the Shelby County Motor Club in the court house, reports considerable interest in housing by defense workers, but few placements because of the lack of unfurnished apartments and houses. More than 200 defense workers are listed with more being added each day. The principal demand is for unfurnished apartments.

The Fairlawn district board of education has become the first of 35 to give preliminary approval to plans for the Upper Miami Valley joint Vocational School. The Anna local board was second.

Pretty Peggy Fleming, 1967 World, North American and U.S. Champion figure skater, will be the guest star at the Troy Skating Club’s Ninth Annual Ice Show at Hobart Arena on April 21 and 22. Martha and Edith Milligan, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William Milligan of Sidney, will skate in the “Han Christian Andersen” cast.

NEW YORK (AP) – Tennis great Arthur Ashe has had many causes: human rights, black awareness, education. AIDS was not among them. On Wednesday, Ashe reluctantly acknowledged that he has had AIDS since 1988 and said he became infected with the virus five years earlier from a blood transfusion. He disclosed his condition after USA Today called him on Tuesday.

Lehman High School will present its 14th annual all-school musical “The Music Man,” Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the school. At Lehman, the lead role of Harrold Hill belongs to senior Justin Vordemark. Marian is played by senior Mary Wiford. Sidekick Marcellus Washburn is senior Andrew Carr.
