Carstar team wins adult spelling bee

SIDNEY — Ohio Living Dorothy Love’s Amos Community Center was full of excitement at the 10th annual adult spelling bee, April 20, sponsored by the Altrusa Club of Sidney.

Five teams of adults competed in the bee, which raises money for scholarships given annually to Shelby County youth and for other literary projects supported by the club.

Audience members cheered on the teams for six rounds before the Sidney Body Carstar team took first place by correctly spelling the word, “entrepreneur.” The Shelby County Libraries team placed second, and the Wilson Health team was third.

Briley Wellbaum was the designated “stinger bee,” and when a team spelled a word incorrectly, she popped a balloon at their table, which officially eliminated them. She was helped by Ian Mohrbacher, who handled the microphone.

Local businesses, individuals and schools donating to the event were Ohio Living Dorothy Love, Lehman Catholic High School, Shelby County Libraries, Sidney Body CARSTAR and Wilson Health.

Also contributing were AAA, Allison Jewelers, The Bridge, Ron & Nita’s, The Spot, Christa Morris and committee members Lisa O’Connor and Deb Sanders.
