Taking part in a city of Sidney Arbor Day celebration, Friday, April 28, are Sidney High School students, left to right, Ana Adams, 15, daughter of Nikki Adams; Alyssa Chavez, 16, daughter of Kenna and Andy Chavez; Lucas Finke, 16, son of Leah and Eric Leah Finke; and Amanda Thomas, 18, daughter of Amy and Keith Thomas. During the ceremony, Sidney Vice Mayor Mardie Milligan read an Arbor Day proclamation and Sidney High School Principal Jon Geuy talked about how his childhood home had once been a one-room school house and an old woman who had gone to school there as a child would come by and ask his family if she could pick apples from trees that were planted on the property when she was a student at the school. Finke and Thomas put soil on a freshly planted buckeye tree in front of the Sidney High School during the ceremony. The tree is dedicated to the memory of Ty Martin, a Sidney High School student who passed away last year. Martin would have been a senior this year.
