May 26, 1892

The Wagner Manufacturing Co. is preparing to build an addition to its foundry. The new part, which will be 30 by 75 feet and three stories, will be used for a warehouse. Work will begin at once.

100 Years

May 26, 1917

J.J. Kane has just completed one of the most up-to-date and complete plants in this part of the state for dry cleaning purposes. The plant is located at the corner of Virginia Street and McKinley Avenue. Offices and salesroom will be at 120 North Main Avenue.

Decoration Day will mark the formal opening of the country club. The grounds are in fine shape for playing, and Prof. Deeters, an expert, will be on hand to teach those who want to become good golf players.

Arthur Werst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Werst, of Jefferson Street, graduated from Ohio Northern University at Ada yesterday. His parents were present for the graduation exercises.

75 Years

May 26, 1942

An audibility test of the old fire bell atop the Monumental Building will be made as a prelude to meeting the auxiliary police unit tomorrow evening. Chief of Police William O’Leary said today. Unit members are asked to be on the alert at the ringing of the bell and report at the meeting the results attained.

Mrs. Elizabeth Murphy was elected president of the Business Girls Association for the coming year at the meeting last evening. Mrs. Anna Harman was named vice president; Mrs. C.H. Roman, secretary; Miss Lela Shidaker, treasurer, and Mrs. Mabel Loudenback, auditor.

50 Years

May 26, 1967

Paul Long Jr. stroked a 39 to head the Dayton Power and Light Golf League for the second straight week at Shelby Oaks Wednesday. Long’s 39 helped General Highway Express No. 1 tie City Sidney, 4-4.

Two high school junior boys will represent Sidney at the 1967 Buckeye Boys State, sponsored by the American Legion of Ohio, Don Clinehens, commander of Sidney Post 217, announced today.

Selected to participate in this annual civics workshop program are Mike Littlejohn, a student at Sidney High School, and Steve Arnold, a Holy Angels High School student. Littlejohn is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Littlejohn, R.R. 5, Sidney, while Arnold is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arnold, 309 Jefferson Street.

25 Years

May 26, 1992

In preparation for the implementation of the emergency 9-1-1 telephone system June 30, testing will begin Monday to insure the system is working properly.

CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA – Endeavour’s austronauts released a communications satellite early today after an historic three-man spacewalk that rescued both the $157 million craft and NASA’s can-do reputation.

The astronauts grabbed the satellite by hand in unison Wednesday, held it in place for 1-1/2 hours and spent several hours more attaching a rocket designed to lift it out of the uselessly low orbit in which it was stuck for two years.
