SIDNEY — New Choices employees and volunteers are gearing up to run during its 12th annual 5K benefit.

The event will be July 20.

“The name of the race is New Choices Break Away 5K — We Run So She Doesn’t Have To,” said Amanda Partington, executive director of New Choices.

The race will begin at Tawawa Park at the Geib Pavilion. Registration begins at 7:30 p.m. and the race begins at 8:15 p.m. The race follows the 5K route through the park. Water will be available every mile.

T-shirts are available for runners who register by July 14 and will be available on the day of the race while supplies last.

Sponsors wishing to appear on the T-shirts should respond by July 14.

“The race is included in the 5K tour. It is also included on the New Choices Inc. webpage at www.newchoicesinc.org/breakaway5k, on the New Choices Inc. Facebook page and at the Speedy Feet website,” said Partington.

According to the website, “New Choices offers a warm, home-like atmosphere for our individuals and families affected by domestic violence.”

In addition to housing individuals and families that are leaving an abusive situation, New Choices provides several other services. New Choices also provides a 24-hour victim hotline, safety planning, case management, court advocacy, resources and referrals, support and school programs.

All proceeds from the race will benefit victims of family abuse and violence who stay at the shelter.

New Choices Inc. is a nonprofit agency that was incorporated in 1983. Its mission is to help break the cycle of abuse in which some families find themselves.

The website asserts, “For nearly 30 years our advocates have worked to help victims of this crime through their individual struggles. We can be found guiding survivors through the court system; educating in the workplace, church, and community; in the school discussing alternatives to violence and bullying. We work every day to become an integral part of the fabric of the communities that foster a safe environment for all.”
