Rock Piqua! ready to roll

PIQUA — Mainstreet Piqua and the Piqua Arts Council are ready to roll out their second Rock Piqua! Riverfront Concert of the year at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15, in Lock 9 Park.

The free concerts will feature the old-school R&B of Motown Sounds of Touch (aka Touch) and rockabilly music from The American Kings.

Starting the evening off, the men of Touch will take the stage. Hailing from Dayton — the same city that gave the music world The Ohio Players, Heatwave, Shirley Murdock, Slave, Lakeside, Zapp and Roger Troutman — Touch has been entertaining and delighting audiences all over the country for over 15 years. Their energetic dance performances and engaging personalities have brought many an audience to their feet.

Also from Dayton, The American Kings take pride in giving their audience an authentic, fresh, and danceable show with true renditions of your favorite rock ‘n’ roll songs. And because The Kings live a life with a vocabulary that allows the words “sock” and “hop” to still make perfect sense together, you can fully trust them to put on a good show.

“Last year, we had so much fun with The American Kings and so many people were disappointed because they got there late and missed them that we had to bring them back,” Jordan Knepper, executive director of Piqua Arts Council, said. “Not only do they sound great, but their audience engagement is off the charts as well.”

Knepper also thanked the headlining sponsors for Rock Piqua this year: the City of Piqua, Emerson Climate Technologies, French Oil Mill Machinery Company, Francis Cricket Wireless, PolySource, Vectren Foundation, and Spencer Peltier and Mark Reedy at Thrivent Financial.

“Without these wonderful sponsors, we wouldn’t have a Rock Piqua! Riverfront Concert series as all,” he said.

As a bonus, this Rock Piqua! Riverfront Concert will feature a Rock ‘N Roll Car Show sponsored by Mainstreet Piqua, Piqua Arts Council, 98.1 WPTW and the Miami Valley Center Mall, starting at 3 p.m. in Linear Park and along Main Street by the bike path bridge.

The first 75 registrations for the Rock ‘N Roll Car Show will receive a specially designed dash plaque. Cars will be parked in Linear Park near the bike path and all along Main Street until 6 p.m.

TK BBQ and Susie’s Big Dipper will be at the event serving food and ice cream. Outside food and drinks are not permitted in the concert venue and smoking is only allowing the designated area.
