SIDNEY — A couple who have supported Lehman Catholic High school for years will be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. The Lehman Catholic High School Alumni Association has announced this year’s inductees include a former educator, a lawyer, two Lehman staff members and a Piqua Catholic High School graduate.

The five distinguished individuals – John E. Ferman, John M. Garmhausen, Mike and Joyce Hughes, and Kenneth H. Schlater — will be honored at Lehman Hall of Fame festivities on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017.

The third and fourth inductees are Mike and Joyce Hughes. Mike was born in 1952 and was baptized into the Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was in the last graduating class of Holy Angels High School in 1970. After graduating he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1972 until 1974 as a Spec 4. On Nov. 16, 1974, he wed the love of his life Joyce (Buschur) at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Joyce was born in 1953 and was baptized into the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, Ohio. She was a graduate of Anna High School in 1972. After graduating she worked at the Minter Box Factory until the birth of their first child.

In 1976, Mike and Joyce welcomed their first son, Jason, followed by Christopher in 1982 and Joseph in 1986. In 1978 Mike began working at Crown Equipment and is currently employed to this day. Mike began working at Lehman Catholic High School in 1985, part time as groundskeeper, bingo, and custodian. Joyce followed Mike in his footsteps at Lehman Catholic, by joining the staff in 1996 as a part time dishwasher for Ester Bensman and part time custodian for Tom Jordan. Following Jordan’s retirement in 2004, Joyce was offered a full time custodian position.

Mike and Joyce enjoy their job and being around the faculty, staff, and studentsof Lehman Catholic High School. In their free time they enjoy spending time with each other, children, grandchildren, and family. Lehman Catholic High School would not be the place it is today without Mike and Joyce Hughes. Their commitment to Catholic education has directly impacted the learning environment at Lehman Catholic High School. Throughout their years at Lehman they have always gone above and beyond to make sure the faculty, students and facilities are properly taken care of.

Since beginning this tradition, the Hall of Fame committee has sought to honor not only alumni but outstanding faculty and supporters of Lehman Catholic. The Hall of Fame evening will begin with Mass at 5:15 p.m. in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel on campus. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Virgil Heitmeyer Gymnasium.
