Crash into pole causes power outages

SIDNEY — Close to 1,400 Shelby County customers lost power on Wednesday morning after a truck struck a utility pole at Utility Solutions Midwest on South Brooklyn Avenue.

DP&L reported that 1,389 customers lost power at 7:58 a.m. after an employee of Utility Solutions Midwest backed into the power pole located at the business. About 463 people continued without power until 10:01, when all customers’ power was restored except for Utility Solutions Midwest.

Mary Ann Kabel, director of corporate communications at DP&L, said Utility Solutions Midwest’s power is expected to be restored a little after noon. She said it will likely take up to two hours to replace the damaged pole.

Kabel said crews worked quickly to restore power to the business district and that customers may experience a brief loss of power when reconnecting the replaced pole.

Information about outages can be found on DP&L’s website, dpandl.com/customer-service/outage-center. Outages can be reported to 877-468-8243.
