SIDNEY —Ty Martin was 17 when he died during a church mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico, in July 2016.

His parents, Tim and Allison Martin, of Sidney, will auction an orange Adirondack side table and chair during the Shelby County Fair to raise money for a scholarship fund that supports missions trips through their church, Sidney First United Methodist Church.

“We’ve sold tickets at our church for the last three weeks,” said Allison. She estimated 200 tickets have been sold so far this week.

Ty had been on two missions trips before, and the fatal trip was to the Rosarito Orphanage, where he witnessed to kids.

“My son was a bigger kid, and they called him the walking playground,” Tim said. “They would just crawl all over him.”

The table and chair were donated by Swings N Things. They can be seen outside the octagonal building on the fairgrounds at the Swings N Things tent. Entries will be accepted until the chair is raffled at 7 p.m., today, July 28. All entries are $5. Tickets are also available at Sidney First United Methodist Church, 230 E. Poplar St., and Primary EyeCare Associates, 1086 Fairington Drive.
