Monday, Aug. 7, 1892

Arrangements have been completed for the Gilbert Comedy Opera Co. to present “La Mascotte” in the Monumental Hall here the evening of Aug. 9.

The new location and hours for the market have been approved by council. The market is now situated by law on the east side of Main Avenue, from North to Court Streets. The hours will be on Wednesday mornings from 5 to 9 in summer and 6 to 10 in the winter months.

100 years ago

Monday, Aug. 7, 1917

The following will compete in the oratorical contest to be held Friday evening in the town hall at Anna: John Scott, Lockington; Alice Thompson, Sidney; Duane Mohr, Pemberton; Hazel Booker, Piqua; and Lewis Warbington, Sidney. The Sunshine Trio, composed of Misses Emily Benjamin, Olive Murray, and Caroline Griffith, all of Sidney, will present special music.

75 years ago

Monday, Aug. 7, 1942

Co. K of the Ohio State Guard returned home yesterday evening from Camp Zaleksi, completing a week’s training. On Thursday evening, the entire regiment came under a simulated air attack, when civil air patrol planes, posing as enemy bombers, attacked the camp. Several direct hits were made on barracks and buildings where supplies were stored, as the entire regiment was given orders to prepare for battle.

Monday, Aug. 7, 1967

Another Shelby County Fair, the 107th, passed into history Friday and the news wasn’t all good today, from a financial standpoint. Gates and grandstand admission totals for the closing day were both substantially under the figures for 1966, despite the appearance of an auto thrill show on the race track. The situation led some board members to speculate on the possibility of shortening the fair to six or even five days.

Monday, Aug. 7, 1992

HARDIN – Paul Keller’s new job as principal of Hardin-Houston Elementary School may be a new position, but not one with which he is unfamiliar. As principal of the junior high school at Houston for the past three years, Keller assisted at the elementary building, as well as in Houston High School. “It was a good place to get started in administration,” Keller said of his previous job as principal for the seventh and eighth grade students in the district.

World Savings and Loan Association has announced the promotion of Michael Monnier to assistant vice-president. His responsibility is to support the operation of the seven Ohio branches located in Sidney, Piqua (2), Steubenville (2), Norwalk and Sandusky.

Thelma Emter, owner of Balloons For You! in Sidney, recently participated in the tenth annual open house sponsored by Flowers Inc. Balloons, near Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Emter worked with Bess Temples of Balloons or Bust in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in presenting the classes “Theme Parties” and “Pyramids with Pizzazz.”
