Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1892

Work of tearing out a part of the old C.H. & D. switch, running from Michigan Avenue to a short distance south of the freight house, was begun yesterday. Elimination of the switch in front of the depot will give much needed room. The new bridge in process of construction will only be wide enough for one track and will be built of iron.

100 years ago

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1917

Although he is past age limit, Dr. J.W. Costolo has offered his services to the medical corps of the army. In view of his long experience in the treatment of tubercular troubles, it was indicated the department would endeavor to get a special order in his case.

75 years ago

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1942

Fort Loramie’s new township house and new home of the Fort Loramie Community Fire department will be dedicated at an elaborate celebration tomorrow afternoon and evening. Township trustees, village officials and officers of the community fire department will take part in the dedication which will be followed by a special program to be held at Bender’s park.

50 years ago

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1967

Purchase of the Minton’s Food Market site, 123 North Main Avenue, by the United Telephone Co. was made known today. The deal gives the utility room for the construction of an addition that will house equipment for push button and direct long distance dialing. For Minton’s, the transaction means the passing from business of a firm that has served the area since 1938.

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1992

With final details coming together, the sixth year of the Shelby County’s Gateway Arts Council will be bigger than the previous three years combined. Revenues from last spring’s Designer Showcase and the growing financial support from county businesses and individuals will enable the group to inaugurate The Cameo 1992-93 Arts Series at the Cameo Theatre on South West Avenue as well as bring the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats to the Sidney High School auditorium.
