The new copper roof on the court house has been completed. The commissioners have accepted the work and paid George W. Witt, the contractor, $3,027 in full.

Monday, Aug. 21, 1917

The Western Ohio Railway announced today an increase in the rate of passenger fares. If approved by the Ohio Public Utilities commission, the new rates will go into effect on Sept. 1. The fare to Piqua will go from 25 cents to 30 cents; to Anna from 15 cents to 20 cents; to Lima from 70 cents to 85 cents.

Fred Salm and Sons, furniture dealers, have added another new delivery truck to their equipment. Mounted on a Ford chassis, it will be used in making lighter deliveries throughout the county.

75 years ago

Monday, Aug. 21, 1942

A new addition is being made to the Ross Products Co. plant on West Poplar Street. A one-story 40 by 80 building is being erected to house the aluminum furnaces now located in the basement of the former Hickok building. Sidney’s newest industry, Ross Products presently employs some 80 people.

The greatest American land victory of the Pacific war was indicated today with the announcement that U.S. forces have taken over control in the Solomon Islands.

Monday, Aug. 21, 1967

PLATTSVILLE – GreenView United Church of Christ was dedicated recently. The $78,000 building was completed earlier this year and has been in use. The building complex, is located across Leather Creek Road from the Plattsville Center.

Monday, Aug. 21, 1992

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) – Gerald Rivera won’t be prosecuted for punching a heckler while filming a Ku Klux Klan rally. John R. McLaughlin, 42, of Champaign, Ill., the other man involved in the confrontation, will be prosecuted on a disorderly conduct charge.

New teachers at the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School this year are Tammie Havenar of Piqua, junior cosmetology teacher and Charlyne Smith of Vandalia, family studies and skills teacher.
