Friday, Aug. 25, 1892

The waterworks trustees at their last meeting authorized action that will greatly improve the appearance of the standpipe. It will be painted white with the fancy work around the top in different colors. Plans were also made to lay out a waterworks park.

100 years ago

Friday, Aug. 25, 1917

Sidney Lodge No. 750, Loyal Order of Moose, was instituted last evening under the direction of Fred Vivis, district director. The work was put on in the Eagle Hall by the Piqua Lodge.

With physical examination for the second group of men completed, the exemption board is considering the affidavits filed by those claiming exemption from military service.

75 years ago

Friday, Aug. 25, 1942

George Robertson, of Sidney, has been appointed senior gas officer for Shelby County by E.C. Amos, chairman of the Shelby County civilian defense council. Robertson was a member of the chemical warfare division during World War I, and will provide technical assistance to local industry as well as governmental agencies.

50 years ago

Friday, Aug. 25, 1967

Three more candidates, two of them from the same apartment address, disclosed today they will be candidates for Sidney councilman-at-large. They are: Anthony P. Antonopolos, Max Rose, and Thomas Ferree.

Both Bob Kaser and Sam Bender helped League-Leading Ruese Insurance to a 4-0 shutout of Jerry’s Place, in the Monday Night League at Shelby Oaks. Kaser was low for the round with a 37, while Bender scored a 39.

Friday, Aug. 25, 1992

Thomas R. Mills has been named the new Boy Scout district executive for Shelby County. Mills, who has been involved in scouting more than 14 years, took the local post in the Miami Valley Council Aug. 5.

Among new teachers in the Sidney City Schools this years are Francine Wadel, fifth grade; Bruce Lindsey sixth grade; and Chris Eilerman fifth grade. Fifth and sixth grades it the Sidney City Schools are located at Northwood School. Other new Sidney teachers include Kathy Wehrle, kindergarten at Longfellow School; Beth Lane, Spanish at Sidney High School; and Lori Bowman kindergarten at Lowell School.
