The thirty-third annual fair of the Shelby County Agricultural Institute will be held on the fairgrounds in Sidney, Sept. 20-23. Large additions have been made to the buildings and every effort will be made to accommodate exhibitors and make this fair the grandest ever held in Shelby County.

100 years ago

Saturday, Aug. 19, 1917

William E. Woolley left yesterday for Bowling Green, Mo., where he has secured a position of playing the drums in a minstrel show.

Rev. William Pfeiffer preached to approximately 1,000 people Sunday evening at the Fogt’s Grove camp meeting and by special request will return tomorrow evening.

75 years ago

Saturday, Aug. 19, 1942

The Sidney Kiwanis Club will again sponsor the selection of Shelby County’s champion farmer, it was announced today. This is the third year the club has sponsored the project.

Miss Alberta Kies is the first local girl to be accepted and enrolled as a member of the WAAC, the Woman’s Army Auxiliary Corps. She was sworn in yesterday following mental and physical examinations held over a three-day period in Cincinnati.

Saturday, Aug. 19, 1967

Tom Billing is participating in the ninth annual National Stage Band camp now in progress at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. Mr. Billing, a 1965 graduate of Sidney High School, is a junior in the liberal arts college at Ohio Northern University.

25 years ago

Saturday, Aug. 19, 1992

Controversy over the proposed new Shelby County jail/sheriff’s department project continued at ground-breaking ceremonies for the facility this morning when Sidney city and village officials failed to attend the event. The commissioners have been advised by County Prosecutor Michael Boller that a conditional use permit is not necessary to allow construction of the jail.
