Sidney man accused of theft by deception

PIQUA — The owner of multiple properties in Piqua is being accused of multiple thefts by deception after allegedly refusing to pay for services rendered to him, with some of the alleged incidents occurring in 2015.

Based on multiple complaints, the Piqua Police Department Investigation Division arrested Duaine E. Liette, 57, of Sidney, Thursday, Sept. 14. He was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail on four counts of fifth-degree felony theft by deception and three counts of first-degree misdemeanor theft by deception.

Liette was arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court, Friday, Sept. 15, before being released from jail on his own recognizance.

The cases investigated were all related to complaints from people stating they were hired to complete work for Liette, but did not receive payment, according to a press release from the Piqua Police Department.

According to Miami County Municipal Court records, the reported incidents took place at residences along Lincoln Street, June 1, 2015; the 1200 block of Broadway Street, June 15, 2015; the 1000 block of Broadway Street, June 30, 2017; the 1500 block of Broadway Street, June 30, 2017; and Broadway Street, July 1, 2017.

Anyone else who believes he may be a victim under this pattern of activity in Piqua should call 937-440-9911 to file a report with the dispatched officer.

The Piqua Police Department will investigate further to determine if additional charges are supported.
