SIDNEY – A proven family entertainment event will debut in Shelby County Saturday when a Food Truck Rally will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission to the rain or shine event is free and the festivities are open to the public.

Food trucks, a beer garden, musical entertainment, and children’s activities are planned for the rally being held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, according to co-organizer Breezy Yinger.

“This event was first proposed by (fair board secretary) Jerry Schaffner a couple years ago, and this year he approached fair board directors Scott Bertsch and Jake Yinger about helping him get this event,” Yinger said.

The directors joined with Tiffany Bertsch, Breezy Yinger and Carol Pierce in planning the event. According to Yinger, the fair board has been looking at ways to create income outside of the fair week. The truck rally profits will go to the Senior Fair Board.

Organizers report 11 food trucks will be on hand.

They include the Paddy Wagon – eclectic American cuisine; Sugar Pie Bakery – pie by the slice and gourmet brownies; Food to Go!!! – Texas tenderloin, fried bologna, ribeye steak sandwiches, and bosco sticks; Sweet Concessions – cinnamon rolls, sticks and bites; Chuck’s Food – onion blossoms, fried veggies, and fried cheese; Castle Concession – hot mini donuts, fresh cut fries; This Little Swine of Mine – pulled pork sliders and boats; Long’s Concessions – funnel cakes, elephant ears, deep fried buckeyes, fried cheesecake, Hawaiian shaved ice; Mike’s Family Concession – grilled beef tenderloin, grilled chicken, root beer floats, frozen cheesecake dipped in chocolate, and bacon wrapped hotdogs; Grumpy’s – brisket and pork; and Hunger Struck – paninis, gourmet hotdogs and nachos.

Yinger reported Clancy’s Restaurant is sponsoring free children’s activities throughout the day. Planned are a noodle throwing contest, pumpkin ring toss, scarecrow hunt, bounce house and a coloring page that includes a Clancy’s coupon.

Three bands will perform in a Battle of the Bands competition. At 2p.m., The Krew will kick off the competition, followed by Christian Porath at 4 p.m. Idle Achiever takes the stage at 6 p.m. The winner will be decided by the public casting their vote for $1 each at the front of the stage.

At 8 p.m., Karma’s Pawn will take the stage to close out the live musical entertainment for the evening.

Yinger said an hourly cash prize drawing of $25 will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Tickets will be drawn at the top of each hour, and the winner must be present to win. Tickets will be $1 each or six for $5.

At 8 p.m., a drawing for a split pot of the money earned from the hourly prize drawing during the day. If the winner is present, they will receive 50 percent of the money. If they aren’t present, the winner will be presented 25 percent of the cash.

Yinger stated, if successful, the rally could become an annual event, or more often, based on public support. Tentatively, organizers have scheduled the 2018 rally to be a two-day affair to be held on Sept. 28-29.

Karma’s Pawn will be performing Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Food Truck Rally, which will be held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.
