There is but one reason why Sidney should be troubled with a small percent of dust that makes life a burden two or three months a year. The reason is the cost of using the water works to sprinkle the street. Because of the expense, the dust has full sway. If everyone would lay the dust in front of their home there would be an end to the sand storms.

The regular session of the city council was more than interesting Monday night as a result of the lively “set-to” between Councilman Chambers and Attorney R.E. Marshall over the proposition of the Big Four railroad placing two more switch tracks across Ohio avenue. After considerable discussion and some strong words, a motion was made to table indefinitely the resolution authorizing the railroad to proceed.

A large picture of Camp Sherman, Chillicothe, is being displayed in the window of Fred Salm and Sons. This picture is one of the first to be taken with a large camera and was received by Mrs. Charles Marshall as a gift from Robert Alexander, chairman of the War Committee of Chillicothe. Law enforcement is nothing new to Gregory Freistuhler, in fact, it’s been a part of his life since his teenage years. Freistuhler was recently named as the replacement for retiring Port Jefferson police chief Virgil Gates and says he’s excited about the position which he says he and his patrolmen will spend 35-40 hours a month on. “I’m excited about it”, Freistuhler said. “The chief has been talking to me about it for a year, And that helps, knowing he is behind me”. Freistuhler thinks he is very qualified for the job starting with the fact that he is a lifelong resident of Port Jefferson, and knows the community and its citizens well. Freistuhler began in law enforcement actually when he was 16 years old and became a member of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department’s Ranger program. He eventually became a deputy sheriff and remained in that position until 1988; when he left to become the patrolman for the village of Port Jefferson. He says he plans to continue the crackdown on speeders Ohio 47 through the heart of town.
